The Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) expresses its solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples and communities affected by the wildfires occurring across different regions of Canada, whose effects are also being felt in the United States.

Thousands of people have been forced to leave their homes and territories as the fires spread. For Indigenous Peoples, forced displacement from their territories disrupts community life, access to food and medicine, cultural and spiritual practices, and their daily connection to the land.

The climate crisis is worsening this situation and exposing a reality shared by Indigenous Peoples across different territories: we are among the first to face its impacts, even though our territories, knowledge, and ways of life play a fundamental role in protecting the forests and maintaining the planet’s balance.

APIB also stands with Indigenous leaders in their calls for rapid and coordinated emergency responses, adequate support for displaced people, resources for community reconstruction, and greater participation by First Nations in fire prevention and response.

From Brazil to Canada, our realities are distinct, but our roots and struggles are ancestrally connected.

Solidarity among our peoples transcends borders and strengthens a common struggle for the protection of our territories, for self-determination, and for climate justice.

To our relatives in the affected regions, we send our strength, our respect, and our solidarity.
